Boerboels in Work and Exercise – Active Minds, Strong Bodies
Boerboels are not only powerful and imposing in appearance—they are also intelligent, energetic, and emotionally intuitive working dogs. To truly flourish, they need more than just a backyard or short daily walks. A well-balanced Boerboel thrives on both mental engagement and physical exercise, and when given the chance to work alongside their humans, they show their full potential as confident, focused, and well-adjusted companions.
At Tuebor Boerboels, we believe in respecting the individual nature of every dog. While the Boerboel as a breed has remarkable physical strength and endurance, each dog is different in drive, temperament, and preferences. Some of our dogs excel in pulling sports like weight pull, while others enjoy the speed and excitement of lure coursing or the structured interaction of obedience and rally training. Some are calm and focused, making them excellent therapy or companion dogs, while others are more intense and ready for tougher challenges.
Our dogs are introduced to structured activities already in puppyhood—always in age-appropriate, safe and encouraging ways. The goal is to build trust, focus, and teamwork, laying the foundation for more advanced training later on. As the dogs grow and mature, we explore what suits each individual best, whether it's pulling, agility, scent work, or simply long, challenging hikes in the forest.
Since 2010, weight pull and other pulling sports have played a central role in our lives. We train our dogs to pull sleds, carts, and other weights, building both muscle and mental resilience. In addition, we regularly use tools like springpoles and flirtpoles for high-energy play and controlled drive release. Lure coursing is another favorite activity among our dogs—offering them a chance to run, chase, and use their body to the fullest in a safe, controlled environment.
Hiking is also an important part of our routine. Living in the Finnish countryside gives us access to nature trails and wilderness, where our dogs can build endurance, explore new environments, and simply enjoy life in the fresh air. For us, these shared moments—whether during a calm forest walk or an intense training session—are what strengthen the bond between dog and human.
At Tuebor Boerboels, exercise is not just about physical performance—it's about creating confident, healthy dogs who are fulfilled, cooperative, and eager to engage. We aim to raise Boerboels who are not only structurally sound, but also mentally stable and emotionally connected to their people. A true working Boerboel is not just active—it's a partner.
